The Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services is pleased to announce the availability of crisis assistance through the LIHEAP program starting January 11, 2024. This vital program provides temporary financial assistance to income-eligible households in Jefferson County struggling with heating costs during the winter months.
Eligibility and Benefits for LIHEAP in Louisville County:
- Open to Jefferson County households with income up to 150% of the federal poverty guidelines.
- Assistance provided on a first-come, first-served basis from January 9th to March 29th, 2024, or until program funds are exhausted.
- Benefits cover the minimum amount necessary to address the immediate heating crisis, not exceeding the local cost of the household’s primary heating fuel or $400 for gas or electric.

Basic Requirements to Apply for Energy Assistance
All applicants are required to submit specific documentation upon application. This includes proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Residence card (Green Card) for each member of the household and verification of the household’s income from the preceding month. Additionally, applicants must provide the most recent heating bill, a statement from the landlord if heating expenses are included in rent, and a statement from the utility company if participating in a Pre-Pay Electric Program.
Information such as the account number and name on the account for main heating fuel sources and electric bill is also necessary. For those applying to MSD’s EWRAP program, proof of an active utility account with both Louisville Water Company and MSD is required.
This entails being named customers with MSD, receiving metered water service for a property used solely for residential purposes, and owning or leasing the property as the principal residence.
