Although the CalFresh food benefit payments were already fully sent to their recipients in January, many Californian families are already anxiously waiting for the arrival of a new deposit to their EBT card, as every month.
As you may know so far, CalFresh is the name given in the state of California to the SNAP Benefits program, which distributes money to low-income families (nationwide), in order to avoid falling into food insecurity. The February payments are already being prepared, and we will tell you which is the magic day, as appropriate.
CalFresh Payments in February 2024: Find Your Deposit Date
Unlike a uniform issuance date for all SNAP benefits, the distribution process unfolds over the first 10 days of each month across all Californian counties. The specific issuance day within this period is determined by the last digit of the recipient’s case number.
If your number is 1, your money will arrive on Thursday, February 1st, while the group of number 2 will receive their payment on Friday, February 2nd. Subsequently, those whose case number is 3, will see the cash hit their EBT card on February 3rd, and those with the number 4, then, on February 4th. From the 5th to the 9th, consecutively, payments will be sent on time between the 5th and the 9th, while those of the number 0 are due for payment on February 10th.
Maximum CalFresh Food Stamps You Could Get in California
Through September 30, 2024, CalFresh benefits — the amounts of which are equivalent to USDA SNAP benefits — range from $291 to $1,751, depending on the number of people in the household. Below, we detail the amounts:
For a one-person household, the maximum benefit is $291, while a two-person household is eligible for a maximum of $535. The allotment increases with the household size, reaching $1,751 for an eight-person household. Additionally, for each additional household member, an extra $219 is added to the benefit allotment. These adjustments aim to provide varying levels of support to households depending on their size during the specified time frame.
Getting SSI and CalFresh at the Same Time
Also remember that CalFresh beneficiaries can apply at the same time for the Supplemental Security Income (SS). There is no change or reduction to SSI/SSP payments. To qualify for both CalFresh and SSI concurrently, individuals must satisfy the criteria outlined by each program. For SSI eligibility, applicants must be California residents and either U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens.
They should be aged 65 or older, or meet the Social Security Administration’s definition of blind or disabled. SSI also imposes specific income and resource limits distinct from those of CalFresh. To qualify for CalFresh, individuals must meet income and resource limits based on household size, be U.S. citizens or qualified non-citizens, and reside in California with an intention to stay for at least 30 days.
Additional factors, such as work requirements for non-elderly, non-disabled adults, and variations in household composition, can impact eligibility for both programs. For detailed information and assistance with the application process, individuals are encouraged to reach out to their local Social Security Administration office and the California Department of Social Services. It’s crucial to stay informed as deadlines and requirements may undergo changes.
