Missouri’s Family Support Division is implementing a crucial alteration to its Medicaid policy, set to take effect from February 2024 to December 2024. The primary objective is to ensure continued coverage for children, even if their parents become ineligible during this period. This adjustment aligns with a fresh federal requirement shaping the landscape of healthcare provisions for families.
Expanded Medicaid Coverage Amidst Household Changes
Kim Evans emphasizes that, during the annual renewal reviews in the upcoming year, the state will solely scrutinize eligibility criteria for adults benefiting from government-funded healthcare. Notably, any alterations within the family structure occurring between these annual renewal periods will not impact children’s coverage.
The revised guidelines specify limited circumstances under which children’s Medicaid coverage may cease, including the child’s demise, voluntary termination requested by caretakers, parents, or the child, and relocation out of state. Importantly, Evans underscores that the federal requirement is not retroactive, signifying its application only from February to December 2024.
What Help Is Available and Who’s Eligible for Medicaid in Missouri?
If you lack health insurance or require assistance in covering your healthcare expenses, you might qualify for coverage under Missouri’s Medicaid program, known as MO HealthNet.
Eligibility for MO HealthNet depends on your income, age, health, and individual needs. You may be eligible if you are a(n):
- Senior (age 65 and older)
- Parent or caretaker with a child (under age 19)
- Child (age birth -18)
- Woman (age 18-55) with no health insurance
- Adult (age 19-64) without disabilities
- Pregnant woman (including unborn child)
- Woman (under age 65) with breast or cervical cancer
- Person with disabilities
- Blind or visually impaired adult

Upon completion of the application process, you’ll receive a notification letter indicating whether you qualify for healthcare coverage.
